Lucan: The Philosophical Wolf

Image
A Newspaper Review of  Lucan's P remiere Episode In the late 70s and early 80s , Television was ruled by a Trilogith – the "Big Three" networks – ABC, CBS, NBC. These networks  received many complaints from worried parents, Television watchdogs, research groups, and some religious organizations about the amount of violent content featured on their prime-time shows. By the time Lucan premiered, changes were just being implemented. The critic here felt that ABC overcompensated so much that instead of merely toning down the action on Lucan, they "turned it off." After the Pilot, Lucan became more of a pacifist, though he wasn't afraid to fight back or defend himself when necessary.  Personally, I felt that the feral aspect of Lucan's personality needed to remain strong; wolves are not golden retrievers; they're apex predators that become menacing when scared or provoked. Even when Lucan had displayed aggression, he still needed to keep his cool becau...

Kevin Brophy, the Beloved Lucan, Passed away on May 11, 2024.

Image
It's taken me a while to share this because I only recently learned of Mr. Brophy's passing. I knew he had been battling cancer, but this heartbreaking news still came as a shock. I apologize for the long absence from my Lucan website. My mother's passing in late 2023, after her own long battle with a terminal illness, deeply affected me. The loss of her, combined with other personal challenges, drained my motivation for many of my hobbies, including maintaining my fan sites. I genuinely hope to rectify this in the coming years.  Kevin Brophy was a fine actor best known for his role as the titular character in the 1970s TV series Lucan. Mr. Brophy passed away on May 11, 2024, at the age of 70. Born in Salt Lake City and raised in Southern California, Kevin Brophy's career took off after graduating from the California Institute of the Arts. His breakthrough role as Lucan, a young boy raised by wolves, captivated audiences and launched his acting career. I can't speak...

Lucan: Different Opening Narrations

Image
“In 1967 a group of hunters ventured into the remote part of Northern Minnesota. They came back with a strange story. Where there are no roads, the human-animal is rarely seen, and other forms of life may flourish undisturbed. From the outside, these dense forests look lifeless, but inside there are Elk and Caribou, Black Bear, and Bobcat, It is also the last refuge in America of Canis Lupis … the Grey Wolf. The Hunters who penetrated deep into this lush wilderness claimed to have seen a creature living there, which at first, they didn’t identify. It turned out to be a 10-year-old human, a boy. Deserted by his parents at an early age, he somehow survived, adapted to the environment. How? We may never know. He hunted like a wolf. He ate, and slept, and even howled like a wolf. An expedition captured the wild boy and brought him to a University Research Center in California. There, 10 years ago, he began his immense journey. It is the journey man himself has made. From the forest to civi...

The Lucan Press-Kit: Kevin Brophy Bio (1977)

KEVIN BROPHY – STARTING AT THE TOP BY EARL WINGARD After graduating from California Institute of Arts, Kevin Brophy quickly got his first professional acting job – starring in the title role of MGM Television's new hour-long adventure series, LUCAN, premiering on ABC network December 26. What's it like to start at the top? "Wonderful, absolutely wonderful," enthuses Kevin, just two years out of college. "I thought maybe I should just get out and run a dairy farm in Wisconsin. And then along came LUCAN and suddenly my life did a 180-degree turn. Instead of everything being down, everything was up." In his role as LUCAN, Kevin portrays a young man in search of his roots. He was left abandoned as an infant, for reasons unknown to LUCAN, and was raised by wolves in the northern wilds. He has acquired an animal's mistrust of humans but knows he must live among them and earn their respect and assistance if he is ever to find his parents or ot...
